A Needles occurs as row of distinctive stacks of chalk that rise out of a sea off the american extremity of the Isle of Wight, England, close to Alum Bay. The lighthouse has stood at the american prevent of the formation since 1859. the formation will require its title from either a needle-acerate pillar known as Lot's Wife that used to stand in its midst until it collapsed in a storm in 1764. A Needles Old battery was built on a drop top above the stacks around 1861–63 to guard the West prevent of the Solent.
